Air And Water Pollution Solar Power Solar Energy Generation Guide
Air And Water Pollution Can Be Reduced By Taking Action
By Genevieve Thomson
Air and water pollution is evident in our rivers, lakes
and in the polluted air we breathe. There are a number
of ways you can review your options and take action
to reduce our dependence on processes that generate
pollution.
One way, is to use solar power to meet our electricity
needs in our homes and businesses. Another way, is to
recycle and reuse many of the products and resources
we use. Rather than filling our landfills with unrecycled
waste, we should look to create more products that are
recyclable, and eliminate the use of non-recyclable
products.
A lot of manufacturers these days, are creating more
products using recycled materials and we can see these
products in our shops. You can buy paper products, furniture,
garden equipment and many other household products,
manufactured with recycled materials. You should look
out for these products, to encourage the manufacturers
to keep using these processes and to help reuse our
resources, rather than digging more resources out of
the ground.
The Effects Of Air And Water Pollution
People pay so much attention to global warming nowadays
that many other important environmental problems are
often ignored or given short shrift. Decades before
people even began to talk about the greenhouse effect,
the effects of air and water pollution were well known.
Ever since the beginning of the industrial revolution,
there has been a dark side to our prosperity, and we
can not afford to forget it. When we pollute the groundwater
and cloud the air with smog, it affects our health,
our environment, and our quality of life.
River Pollution Coming From Far Upstream
The difficult thing about working to clean up air and
water pollution is that the source and the solution
are not always local. River pollution, for example,
can come from far upstream.
A factory 200 miles upstream can gravely affect health,
fishing, and quality of life downstream. With air pollution,
the effects can be even more widespread. For example,
the wildfires in Southern California produced so much
smoke that people hundreds of miles up the coast in
Oregon and Washington could feel the effects.
Still, there are more ways to address air and water
pollution than ever before. We have a culture which
is based on the free flow of information, and the laws
our country passes have international effects.
Keeping Companies Accountable For Pollution
Air and water pollution activist groups work with governments,
international organizations, and other activist groups
in foreign countries to clean up and improve the environment.
We can use satellites, official records, and the Internet
to keep track of the pollution records of different
companies and hold them accountable. The huge volume
of info available is probably our greatest weapon in
the fight for clean air and water.
Nevertheless, the place where an activist can make
the most difference is in his own backyard. It can be
very hard to affect the air and water pollution laws
in other communities, let alone other countries.
Think Globally, Act Locally
In the place where you live, however, you can work
for tougher legislation, more corporate responsibility,
and better government oversight. You do not have to
look to distant shores in order to make a big difference
in the way the world works. As the old saying goes,
think globally, act locally.
It can be hard to get involved in fighting against
air and water pollution because of how large the problem
is. Still, I would encourage anyone who is interested
to get involved. The good thing about having big problems
is that there is so much room to make a difference.
You can start anywhere and fight the good fight.
Everyone knows that we won’t be able to clean up polluted
air and water overnight, but in time we can make the
world a better place.
Especially for the future of our children. We do not
want to leave our children the legacy of polluted rivers
and a smoked filled atmosphere. If our factories go
green and change their manufacturing processes to minimize
and even eliminate the production of pollutants, then
we would be able to provide for a better and cleaner
environment.
Solar Power Helps Reduce Air And Water Pollution
You can begin by taking action in your home environment,
by using solar power to produce all your electricity
needs. When you use electricity from fossil fuel burning
power stations, the atmosphere is polluted with greenhouse
gases. Eventually the fossil fuels will run out and
is therefore a finite resource.
Solar power is produced by using free sun energy, that
is, energy from the sun. This source of energy is infinite
and renewable. There are almost no pollutants produced
when generating solar power. Rather than using electricity
from a finite resource, you may look to switching to
solar power as one of your solutions to help reduce
air and water pollution.

Little Known Solar Facts.....
Who first used solar power?
It is believed that the ancient Greeks utilized
the sun when constructing their buildings. They realized that houses
and buildings facing the sun would receive more warmth and light.
Native Americans followed the same practice. The first
industrial use of solar power was brought about thanks
to Auguste Mouchoute in 1861 with his steam engine that
was powered by the sun. His invention may not have been
very popular with the coal industry but it was a start
in the right direction for the use of solar power.
