Clorox Green Works Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner Made With Sustainable And Biodegradable Materials
By James J Dixon
In March 2008, Clorox launched a new line of cleaning
products made from at least 95% natural, sustainable
and biodegradable materials. The products include Clorox
Green Works Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner, General
Purpose Cleaner, Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Dilutable Cleaner
and Bathroom Cleaner.
There are still some unnatural colorants and fragrances,
but they’re working on finding natural substitutes for
those too. The product’s ingredients include water,
alkyl polyglucoside, ethanol SDA-3C, glycerine, lemon
essential oil, preservative (kathon) and colorants (milliken
liquitint blue HP dye and bright yellow dye X).
A Pleasant Surprise With De-Streaking on China Cabinets
Even though their formula isn’t perfect in terms of
environmental friendliness, they’ve still managed to
secure a coveted endorsement from the Sierra Club.
Passionate buyers of Clorox Green Works Natural Glass
and Surface Cleaner say that they feel this product
works great and removes streaks on items like china
cabinets that other industrial-grade products failed
to de-streak. Many consumers admit they had little faith
in "green" cleaning products prior to buying
this line, but they were pleasantly surprised.
Moving Towards A Greener Product
Most people are aware that there are still a few ingredients
that could be improved in the formula to be more eco-friendly,
although this is a big step for consumers who are used
to cleaning with toxic mainstream household products.
The move toward a greener formula is a big one for Clorox,
a company that is expected to go even greener in the
near future.
Of course, not all consumers are wholly satisfied with
the Clorox Green Works Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner.
One reviewer on the Clorox website reported, "I’m
surprised that people thought that this was streak free.
Not All Streaks Are Removed
I’ve washed my windows three or four times now trying
to get the streaks off." A similar report was published
at the Associated Content website, where a reviewer
mentioned that she "wiped that mirror about 50
times and there were still some small streaks left behind
on the glass, no matter what," which she surmised
was due to the coconut-based cleaning agent.
A consumer at www.ecohuddle.com
said that she preferred the Seventh Generation products
and didn’t like that it "foamed up when sprayed
on glass," which had her scrubbing to get the glass
clean. Lastly, there are some concerns that the Clorox
products aren’t 100% environmentally sound, with a few
questionable ingredients.
Concerns About Habitat Destruction
Critics suggest that, while better than petroleum-derived
products, their coconut-derived and corn-oil-derived
ingredients may still be responsible for rainforest
habitat destruction.
"Clearly, the cleaning product industry is going
green," Soap and Detergent Association spokesman
Brian Sansoni told Forbes Magazine. "It is very
noticeable." The SPINS market research firm reports
that even though green cleaning products only make up
1% of the entire cleaning market, the sale of these
supplies has grown over 20% in the past year.
Getting Into The Green Lifestyle
Sierra Club spokesman Orli Cotel said the great thing
about Clorox Green Works Natural Glass and Surface Cleaner
and the rest of the new product line is that it’s a
good way for regular consumers to get into the "green
lifestyle," even during an economic downturn.
Since bottles sell for $3-$4, these cleaners are more
on par with what consumers expect, not to mention Clorox
is a familiar brand with American consumers. For more

Little Known Green Cleaning Products Facts.....
If you want a shocking revelation, go to your cleaning
pantry and take out a bottle of cleaning solution. Now
take the time to read all of the ingredients. It is
probably a long, laundry list of chemicals that many
of you have probably never heard of or do not know what
the purpose is.
There is a way around it though. Green cleaning products
are organic and are actually good for the health of
your family, home and environment. Most containers are
able to be refilled and cost about the same as those
with harsh chemicals.
