Ecosystem Conservation To Protect The Habitat
By Genevieve Thomson
When talking about ecosystem conservation, the definition
of what an ecosystem actually is becomes important.
An ecosystem is a natural unit of plants, animals, and
micro-organisms that all function together with non-living
environmental factors.
For conservation purposes, it is necessary to know
what each part of the ecosystem does in relation to
the other parts. Conserving an ecosystem becomes hard
because it is nearly impossible to know what each part
of the natural ecosystem does for the others. A lot
of the time, the best strategy is to just leave the
ecological unit alone.
Everything In An Ecosystem Affects Everything Else
The main function of ecosystem conservation is protecting
or restoring the structure, function and species compilation
within the system. This can get hard quickly, because
everything in an ecosystem affects everything else.
The best way to conserve an ecosystem is to approach
it from a large scale view. Large scale approaches avoid
the pitfalls of species-by-species methods that can
drain finances and resources fast.
These methods also become one giant headache because
the conservationists become stuck in an environmental
loop, always trying to come up with something new to
fix the problem they just introduced.
Conservationists Work With Local People And Governments
One of the major problems that conservationists face
in the natural ecosystem environments is the issue that
humans also have to use the space. It is important for
the conservationists to work with the local people and
governments, so that there can be conservation goals
that work well within the ecological unit and with the
needs of the people.
There are a lot of different ecosystems. Any environment
is part of some kind of ecosystem. Some common ecosystems
are: coral reef ecosystems, ocean ecosystems, desert
ecosystems, natural ecosystems and forest ecosystems.
Humans make up ecosystems as well.
Toxicity And Ecosystem Resiliency
An ecosystem maintains a delicate balance, and so when
a foreign element is introduced into the system, it
can completely destroy that delicate balance. Some ecosystems,
however, are more resistant to such influences. The
main factors that determine whether or not an ecosystem
will survive are the new factors of toxicity and the
ecosystems resiliency.
Because there are a lot of random factors that contribute
to the structure of ecosystems, such as a forest fire
or an oil spill, it becomes very hard to properly conserve
the different environments. In ecosystem conservation,
people try to review their options and keep the ecosystem
as natural as possible; however, if they shelter it
too much, then it will also collapse.
Better To Live An Ecosystem Alone And Avoid Consequent Disaster
When speaking of ecosystem conservation, it is important
to remember that all of the different types function
best when left alone. When people try to mess with the
systems too much, the results can be disastrous.
The most important thing for conservationists to do
is approach conserving the ecosystems with goals that
work well for the systems, such as with the rain forest
and the humans who live in them, thus allowing humans
and wildlife to co-exist peacefully and undisturbed.

Little Known Ecosystem Facts.....
What types of ecosystems are there?
There are many different types
of ecosystems in existence. The tundra, marine ecosystems
such as a coral reef and the rainforest are but just three
examples of over twenty different ecosystems that we are
aware of and interact with on a regular basis.
Your front yard and surrounding area is an ecosystem.
Even the busiest city is an ecosystem by the very definition
of an ecosystem. It is one in which the organisms are
interacting with the environment.
