Electric Energy Conservation Reduces Power Bills
By Gerard J Howson
Electric energy conservation methods include using
energy efficient bulbs and appliances, turning off appliances
when you are not using them and unplugging appliances
at the power source. Other ways to save on electric
energy costs is to use free sun energy with solar power
and free wind energy with wind power.
Many people are using solar hot water heating systems
in their homes. These people can see their electricity
bill has been reduced because their hot water is not
heated by the power grid, but with free sun energy,
trapped by solar panels to create solar power. With
solar power, there are no ongoing power generation costs,
unlike the fossil fuel burning systems of the power
grid.
Switching your lights and appliances to solar power
may be one of the best cost reducing electric energy
methods you can use.
Conserving Electric Energy
Electric energy conservation may not be a completely
new idea, but for many people it really seems that way.
After all, conserving energy only recently became part
of popular consciousness. Up until the last few years,
no one really worried about it.
After all, electric power was cheap, convenient, and
readily available. Slowly but surely, that is all starting
to change. With shrinking fossil fuel supplies, looming
environmental catastrophes, and a more conscious populace,
people are really starting to be concerned about where
their electrical energy comes from.
Doing Your Part To Conserve Electricity
Of course, most of us don’t have a choice. We simply
plug into our outlets and get electric energy from the
grid. That does not mean, however, that we can’t do
our part to conserve electricity. There are many simple
ways to conserve energy even without changing your lifestyle.
Just installing energy-efficient light bulbs can save
a huge amount of energy. Better yet, go one step further
and install LED lighting. You can also save energy by
weatherproofing a house more efficiently and by turning
off appliances and lights when you’re not in the room.
Saving Money By Using Less Electricity
These may all seem like small measures to you, but
they add up rather quickly. Not only will you be starting
to do your part to save the world, but you will also
save money in the process.
Conserving electric energy isn’t the only issue here.
One of the things that people are worried about is where
their energy comes from. Many people advocate a more
environmentally sustainable source like solar energy.
Reducing Your Dependence On The Power Grid With Solar
Power
It may take a long time for your energy company to
get going on this, but in many communities you don’t
really actually have to wait for the utility to start
it. Installing some solar cells on a house or a wind
turbine in your backyard can make a dramatic reduction
in the amount of energy you have to get from the power
grid.
Another thing that people worry about with electric
energy is what will happen when it goes out. Sooner
or later, all of us are likely to face an energy catastrophe.
Perhaps a small storm will knock out a large section
of the grid as has happened before.
Perhaps a terrorist attack or natural disaster will
bring down a power plant or major transformer station.
Whatever the cause, it is best to be prepared ahead
of time. Just wiring up a generator and keeping a spare
supply of fuel can make a big difference in emergency
preparedness.
Solar Power In Your Home
Many people have started using solar hot water heating
systems. Once these people realise they do not have
to depend on the power grid for their hot water, then
they can look for ways of reducing dependency by switching
their power needs to solar power. With solar power,
there is a once off cost for installation of the solar
power system and then there are no ongoing solar power
generation costs.
You can turn on the lights, your appliances, heat your
water, all with solar power in your home and business.
Solar panels on your roof trap sun energy and then it
is converted to solar power. Energy from the sun is
free, so there are no ongoing power generation fees.
Unlike the power grid, where fossil fuels have to be
mined and then transported huge distances to the power
station, to be burned with huge emissions polluting
the environment.
With solar power generation, there are no emissions,
so using solar power is good for the environment and
helps to save electric energy.

Little Known Solar Facts.....
Is solar power and solar energy the same thing?
Actually even though people interchange
both words, they are not the same thing. Solar energy
is the “catch all” term that describes all the
uses of solar rays.
Solar power is the specific action of photovoltaic
rays being captured and converted into electricity.
Most people do not realize the difference and it is
a very common misconception.
