Green-e Energy Educates And Certifies Companies
By John M Saragunter
As more and more companies try to go green or sell
environmentally responsible products, or at least claim
that’s what they’re doing, the need for an accreditation
organization like Green-e Energy becomes correspondingly
more important.
It’s too easy for companies to "green-wash"
what they produce, meaning they make environmental claims
for their products that aren’t really true, but which
hoodwink the customers.
A free market energy environment is conducive mainly
to the making of cash, meaning watchdog groups are required
to verify all environmental claims and grant accreditation
only to those whose claims hold true.
International Social and Environmental Accreditation
and Labeling (ISEAL) Alliance
The widening accreditation network is gradually working
to weed out companies whose environmental claims don’t
stand up to scrutiny. Energy certification is just one
of the concerns, for example, of an association like
the International Social and Environmental Accreditation
and Labeling (ISEAL) Alliance.
ISEAL accepted Green-e Energy as a member of the alliance
partly for its work on energy assessment, but also for
its attitude of social responsibility.
Educates And Certifies Companies To Meet Green Standards
So what, exactly, does this organization do? It both
educates and certifies. For example, in the Green-e
Climate program, companies must meet certain standards
in the voluntary marketplace of carbon offsets and greenhouse
gas emission reductions.
In the Green-e Marketplace program, a business or organization
must buy renewable energy from approved companies or
generate it themselves on-site in certain approved ways.
Regular Audit And Verification Programs
In the Green-e program itself, companies supplying
such energy are required to meet certain requirements
and standards before being given certification, and
must be willing to submit to regular audit and verification
programs, whose reports will be provided to the public.
The Green-e Energy organization also makes considerable
efforts at outreach and information sharing. At its
website (http://www.green-e.org/),
people can search for local certified energy suppliers,
download information brochures, find links to green
energy events and read verification reports.
Helping Companies Move To More Sustainable Energy
Systems
The organization publishes guides to help people understand
renewable energy claims and provides information about
what to watch for when trying to switch to more sustainable
types of energy.
This is an organization that is serious about helping
people and companies move to more responsible kinds
of energy use, and it does this in a very thorough,
well-informed way, with a myriad of facts at its disposal.
When it grants certification to a company, it’s very
clear that it has done its homework.

Little Known Green Energy Facts.....
What is green energy?
It is easy to get confused when
you are reading or talking about different energy sources.
The names are often interchangeable and this can lead
to some confusion.
Green energy has been tossed
around a lot these days and has many people wondering
exactly what it is and why it is so important. Green
energy is often interchanged with renewable energy.
Renewable energy is any energy
source that is environmentally friendly, does not pollute
the environment and is renewable.
