Green Energy Technologies To Generate Power

By John M Saragunter

Solar and wind power technologies have existed for quite some time, but with the more recent, urgent push toward using green energy technologies, several others have also entered the field.

These include things like biofuels, geothermal technologies, and even energy methods that try to harness the power of ocean waves as they ebb and flow. What this means is that it is slowly becoming possible for almost anyone to access renewable energy sources of some kind, provided they can handle the cost and that the infrastructure is set up.

Producing Biofuels By Taking Over Farm Land

One of the latest green energy technologies uses biofuels to replace at least part of the hydrocarbon fuels extracted from oil, gas and coal reserves. This helps wean people away from the more "dirty" fuels, but this method also has drawbacks.

To be used on a large enough scale, it takes over farm land that otherwise is used for food, consumes vast amounts of water, and relies on the sale of by-products to be economically viable.

Contaminated With Antibiotics

Yet the Food and Drug Administration recently discovered that these by-products may be contaminated by multiple antibiotics. So this supposedly clean energy source may create more problems than it solves.

Even if methods like geothermal or wave energy or biofuels are part of the energy equation, the world will always need the green energy technologies that can access and harness energy sources known to be most reliable and constantly renewed.

More Research Needed To Improve Efficiency Of Solar Power Panels

Thus far, the best methods remain those that tap into the power of the wind and the sun. So researchers will need to develop further efficiencies in solar power, since at the moment the best conversion rate in a solar panel from collected energy to usable power tends to be about twenty five percent.

The technology of wind turbines also needs refining, to deal with health issues that appear to stem from living too near to them.

Naturally, hydro power is another clean energy source, and there have been technologies to harness it, both simple and complex, since civilization began. But even water may become a scarce resource in the future.

Solar And Wind Are The Main Energy Sources

Therefore, solar and wind are the two main types of green energy technologies that are likely to remain the work horses of the green energy world. The wind will continue powering generators that create electricity, and more refined methods of collecting solar energy will be developed.

Along with supplementary technologies, like geothermal heat collection, these will form the backbone of the world’s power generation in the future.

Little Known Green Energy Facts.....

What is green energy?
It is easy to get confused when you are reading or talking about different energy sources. The names are often interchangeable and this can lead to some confusion.

Green energy has been tossed around a lot these days and has many people wondering exactly what it is and why it is so important. Green energy is often interchanged with renewable energy.

Renewable energy is any energy source that is environmentally friendly, does not pollute the environment and is renewable.
