Lo-Flo Faucets And Shower Heads Help To Reduce Your Water Bills
By James J Dixon
Lo-flo faucets and shower heads help to reduce water
consumption, and your reward is a reduced water bill.
Most lo-flo faucets have a ring or a series of small
holes, through which air can pass. The water flowing
from the pipe into the faucet, mixes with the air, reducing
the amount of water passing through to the shower head.
Using these Lo-flo faucets and shower heads helps to
reduce the amount of precious resources we use, with
these days of droughts and scarce resources, we need
these household items around the home, to reduce the
amount of resources going to waste.
Reduce Reuse And Recycle
In order to keep our current resources, help clean
our environments and reduce waste, we need to review
our options and keep to our three Rs: Reduce, reuse
and recycle. The three R’s are listed in order
of preference.
Therefore, reduction of using our resources plays a
key role in our lives. We need to change our lifestyle
and stop wasting our resources and reduce, reuse and
recycle more of what we have, reducing the need to seek
more.
Too Much Water Going To Waste
One of most important natural resources is water. More
than 60% of our body weight consists of water. Without
water, life would not exist. But, many people seem unaware
of its value. Everyday, each North American uses over
380 liters of water.
Looking at other countries, the French use half the
amount of water we use, and the British use one sixth.
We should follow their lead, and reduce the amount of
water we consume.
Reducing The Use Of Our Precious Resources
If we use our water resources more effectively, there
would be no need for water restrictions, forcing us
to use less water. Saving water should be a voluntary
process, not forced by the government, in order to save
our water resources.
One way to reduce water consumption is with aeration,
as it increases the volume and pressure of the water.
For example, water flowing out through a lo-flo tap
is at two gallons per minute, although it feels like
an ordinary faucet flowing at 4 gallons per minute.
Water Flow Is Much Slower
But, if you were to collect water in a glass, you would
see the difference, as the water flow would be much
slower. However, for washing hands and dishes, lo-flo
faucets are perfect and you may not even notice the
difference. The only difference you may notice is a
lower water bill.
When using a regular faucet or shower head, the flow
of water is between 5 to 9 gallons per minute. Replacing
an inefficient showerhead with a lo-flo faucet or showerhead,
reduces the rate to 2.5 gallons per minute.
If you purchase an extremely efficient lo-flo showerhead,
like the One Gallon per Minute Showerhead from Bricor,
then you will use even less water.
Smaller Holes In Lo Flo Showerheads
Many lo-flo shower heads have more efficient pressing
technology. This means the holes through which water
is forced are smaller, the showerhead may include a
valve or a partial vacuum, helping reproduce the feeling
of water pressure, even the flow of water is reduced.
Looking at the lo-flo shower heads, you may notice
a pause button. You can adjust this button when soaping
or shampooing to stop the water, rather then leave the
shower running.
Stop The Water With A Pause Button
Using the pause button can either turn on a full spray
to a modest trickle, or stop the water flow completely.
There is no need to adjust the temperature, to reduce
the amount of wasted water.
Lo-flo faucets and shower heads are excellent, but
imperfect. A common complaint about the lo-flow shower
heads and faucets, is the reduction in water temperature.
But the difference is generally quite small and usually
unnoticeable.
An Affordable Way To Reduce Your Water Bills
There is a range of lo-flo faucets and shower heads,
with similar prices to the hi-flo showerheads. For example,
if you purchase a normal, not removable lo-flo shower
head, it may cost between $15 and $40.
Alternatively, a detachable lo-flo showerhead with
multiple massage functions can cost between $100 or
even $150. In short, lo-flo faucets and shower heads
are an easy, affordable and effective way to save water.
By reducing our water use, we help maintain one of our
most precious resources.

Little Known Recycling Facts.....
How do I recycle my garbage?
The first step you need to take
is to contact your local waste management facility
and find out what types of recyclables they take
each week. The next step is to secure the
appropriate bins that will house each of the
different types of recycling materials.
Some bins are for inside your home and some are for
outside. Once you have the correct storage containers
it is time to sort your trash. Plastics, papers, glass,
aluminum and yard trimmings will each go into separate
bins and will be placed out on your curb for pick-up
on the appropriate day.
