Solar Pool Covers Power Energy Generation Guide
Solar Pool Covers For Heating And Maintaining Water Temperature
By John M Saragunter
Solar pool covers are used to lower the cost of maintenance
and heating of your swimming pool water and keeping
it warm. Also known as solar blankets they are available
from your local pool supply store and can be bought
online.
When we first got a pool, we thought it would provide
us with nothing but relaxation. Boy, were we ever mistaken!
It turns out that the pool has been nothing but trouble.
From the day they built that in ground pool, it has
caused problems.
We made the mistake of not ordering an inground pool
cover when we got the pool. I realized the mistake,
but figured there was no hurry. After all, you could
get inground pool covers at any pool supply store.
That is when the first disaster struck. Apparently,
our next-door neighbor’s cat snuck into our pool at
night. I had always thought pet cats hated water. Whether
or not they hate it, it is quite clear to us that they
cannot swim. The cat was found dead the next morning.
In our neighborhood, there is a city ordinance that
requires inground pool covers in every yard that has
a pool. Apparently, since we had no inground pool covers,
we were culpable.
Needless to say, the very next day we went out and
got a solar pool cover.
Winter pool covers
It seems that the inground pool cover was not enough
to do the job. Within a week, we found a drowned squirrel
in the pool. We decided to get heavier inground pool
covers. We switched to a winter pool cover, which should
have kept out any pests who loved the water.
For a while, everything was okay. The inground pool
covers seemed to be doing the job. It was months and
months before we had another problem, but it was a big
problem when it struck.
Apparently, the winter inground pool covers had problems
of their own. Although they were heavy enough to keep
out pests, they were not quite so good at keeping out
microorganisms.
Algal blooms in the water
One day, after leaving the winter pool cover on for
a week, we took it off to take a swim. I was literally
covered with algae. I have never seen anything so disgusting.
After that, we drained the pool. Whether or not we
could eventually find solar inground pool covers that
worked, we knew that we were done for the season.
Drained for the winter
After a family discussion, we have decided I am going
to leave the pool drained for the winter and when the
pool is filled again, I will make sure the solar pool
covers does its job and keeps the water warm and keeps
out any wandering animals who insist on having a dip
in the warm water.
We will create a roster and ensure the water is continually
chlorinated so that we can keep the microscopic algae
from growing in the warm water.
A new higher fence will be constructed around the
pool to make it difficult for any child or animal to
get in the water without supervision.
Exercise and Relaxation
The water in the pool is for exercise and relaxation
for the whole family to enjoy during the high heat of
the summer. I would like to use the pool during the
weekend and cover it with the solar pool covers to let
the water warm up during the week.
The solar pool covers will heat up and maintain temperature
while we are at work and the whole family can enjoy
a swim on the weekend.
It relieves all the tension of the week.
Once the summer is over, we will drain out the pool
again.

Little Known Solar Facts.....
Is solar power and solar energy the same thing?
Actually even though people
interchange both words, they are not the same
thing. Solar energy is the “catch all”
term that describes all the uses of solar rays.
Solar power is the specific action of photovoltaic
rays being captured and converted into electricity.
Most people do not realize the difference and
it is a very common misconception.
