Waste Water Recycling Helps To Reuse A Scarce Resource

By James J Dixon

Waste water can be recycled in water treatment plants and used again. A lot of this recycled water is released to lakes and rivers and used on farms to grow agricultural produce. In areas where there is drought and water is scarce, recycling waste water may be an essential option, in order for a community to survive.

Many people these days, especially in rural areas, use rainwater tanks, to collect water and use it to meet household requirements and watering the garden. Some households use their water more than once, so that scarce water is not wasted.

Undoing The Damage To Our Planet By Saving Energy

Have you ever wondered where your waste water goes when you flush your toilet or when you drain your dish water? This is something that we don’t think about a lot, but there are moments when everyone might think about it, and wonder how all of this dirty water is not polluting the environment and making people sick. Luckily for us, things have changed since the days when sewer material ran right into the streets, though there are times when raw sewage goes where it shouldn’t.

Most waste water in towns and cities goes right to the water treatment plants. This type of plant will actually clean the water so well that it comes out the other end much cleaner than the rain that falls or the water in the lakes and rivers. It is usually cleaned and dumped into a river or lake, and everything goes right back where it started. Though this is not comfortable to think about, it must be safe, or we would all be very sick people.

Drinking Recycled Water

When you live in a rural area, you may or may not have waste water management. Though many think that this water is often recycled back into the system, this is usually not true. There may come a day when we have to do that, but I’m not sure I would want to know if this were the case. I don’t care how clean the water might be, the thought of drinking recycled waste water is just too much for me. If this is already something that I have done, please, don’t tell me. I don’t want to know.

Farms have a different way of dealing with waste water. Much of it goes back into the ground, but there is no water supply where it goes. It simply serves as fertilization. The solid waste is often thrown out in the fields as a fertilizer as well. Though this is not a pretty thing to see in your mind, but remember that all fertilizer is made from pretty much the same thing.

Farmers Use Everything Over And Over Again

This is just the way things are done, but it does help if you don’t have to think about it. If it were not safe, we would not be doing it. Farmers are great about using everything over and over again, and not letting anything go to waste. Perhaps the rest of us should take a page out of their book. They have been, and might always be, the original environmentalists.

So when you go to your garden, and place some organic fertilizer to provide nutrients to your growing plants, just consider that a lot of the work you are doing now, is what the farmers do every day, but on a much larger scale. You may want just enough produce from your garden, to feed your family with vegetables, herbs and fruit free of pesticides and other chemicals.

Watering Your Garden

When you water your garden, you may have the option of using rainwater from your rainwater tank, which saves costs on your water utility bills, as the water comes from your own rainwater tank and not from a pipe running down the length of your home.

Some people recycle their water, to be used again. This is useful in areas of water restrictions and drought, where it may not have rained for a long time. You may not want to use recycled water to make your meals and drinking water. But, you may look at using recycled water to wash your car, or wash your clothes.

In areas where water may be scarce, there are many reasons to recycle waste water.

Little Known Solar Facts.....

What is the initial cost of switching over to using alternate energy?
Switching over depends on what exactly you are switching.

Houses that have to be retrofitted using solar panels to generate electricity can be quite costly. Vehicles are cheaper to retrofit but require work. The costs can vary for anything switched over.

The best way to get an estimated idea is to seek out a contractor or mechanic that is for using alternate energy sources.
