Wood Pellet Stove For Clean Heating In Your Home

By Gerard J Howson

In general, a pellet stove, or more specifically a wood pellet stove, is not only environmentally friendly, it is probably one of the most convenient, as you are able to start the fire either by pushing a button or adjusting your thermostat.

It is also one of the most efficient methods of heating your home that is available today. Both corn pellet stoves and wood pellet stoves are energy efficient due to the combustion, which is almost complete with no smoke.

Corn Feed From A Pet Store

Most corn pellet stoves have an additional setting that changes the removal rate and air flow, allowing wood pellets to be used in it as well. Many believe that even if you plan to burn wood pellets you should consider a corn pellet stove too, as there may be times when wood pellets are in short supply.

You could then drop by a pet or feed store to buy a bag of corn feed making it easier to get the fuel needed to heat your home.

Virtually Maintenance Free

As well, these stoves are virtually maintenance free. Every few days, depending upon your heat setting, all you have to do is pour a bag of corn or wood pellets into the hopper and that is it!

Corn is stickier than wood pellets so each month you would have to clean the draft fan and possibly the auger.

It is a good idea to get a wood pellet stove model that offers a battery back-up option since they use electricity to operate the combustion air fan, feed augers and the blower. If the electricity does goes off, then the stove will automatically switch to battery power.

Clean Burning For Better Air Quality

Pellet fireplaces stoves burn more efficiently than the traditional wood burning stoves and fireplaces and create less ash, making clean up a little easier.

Since they are clean burning they allow for better air quality and most wood pellets are actually made from the waste material that comes from wood processing that would otherwise be useless and a waste.

The wood pellets require less storage space and are much easier to handle than firewood and they normally come in a 40 lb. bag which makes it easier to transport and store.

A Dull Constant Rumble

As with any major appliance there are some drawbacks to the wood pellet stove. You may review your options carefully, before making a final purchasing decision.

For example, there is some noise involved although most claim that the dull constant rumble does not really annoy them. Also, since the stoves are mechanical it is much more prone to mechanical failure than the traditional wood burning stoves and fireplaces.

Since electricity runs the stove, it will increase your electric bill and if there is a power outage, then you will be left without heat. Wood pellets are a bit more expensive than firewood so that adds to the cost of running the stove.

Little Known Pellet Stove Facts.....

What is the benefit to owning a pellet stove?
The benefit to owning a pellet stove is that you will be doing your part to help recycle. Each of the pellets is made from recycled material. They are compressed and will burn much hotter than other heating methods which mean that you will have to use less material.

Even the pellet stoves are more environmentally friendly. Each stove comes equipped with fans that help to even distribute the heat throughout the space.
