Wood Pellets Power Energy Generation Guide

Wood Pellets Are The Better Alternative

By Gerard J Howson

Made from recycled, processed and compacted sawdust, wood pellets are a source of fuel for wood pellet stoves. They are a byproduct of saw milling and other types of wood transformation processing.

These pellets are extremely dense and are produced with low humidity content, normally 10%, which allows them to burn with very high combustion efficiency. Their uniform geometry and relatively small size makes them ideal for automatic feeding with a fine calibration. They are also perfect to be fed to a burner by using either pneumatic conveying or auger feeding.

Their extreme density also helps with compact storage and transportation over long distances. They can actually be "blown" from the transport vehicle directly to the customer’s storage bunker or silo on their property.

New Reliable Sources Of Energy

Since the price of heating with fossil fuels has continued to rise there has been quite a bit of research done seeking reliable sources of energy, other than non-renewable energy such as fossil fuels. There has been an increase in the number of wood pellet fuel stoves being produced and sold, as well as the corn pellet stoves.

Bio fuels made from bio mass (organic material) have actually been proven to be effective substitutes for non-renewable energy sources. Some of these bio fuels are derived from biodegradable materials such as manure, plants, etc.

One Of The Best Forms Of Wood Fuel

However, the organic wood pellets are considered to be one of the best forms of wood fuel. Since they are produced through normal activities such as saw milling, or any other type of wood cutting, they are considered plentiful.

Many of the characteristics of pellets, including low humidity content and higher density, allows them to be automatically used in clean burning heating appliances. Since the pellets are considered biomass they are environmentally friendly, releasing less emissions and ashes.

Lessening The Problem Of Waste And Waste Disposal

As renewable material the wood pellet offers the benefit of a continuous energy supply. There is no deliberate cutting down of trees in order to produce them. Since the pellets are actually considered waste materials, utilizing them as an energy source lessens the problem of waste and waste disposal.

The cost of fossil fuels continues to rise with no relief in sight. As such, the search has turned towards alternative methods of heating that in turn has led to an increase in pellet stove models. The stoves that are specific to wood pellets have some major advantages over the more traditional wood burning stoves and other home heating systems.

For example, the traditional stoves seem to require more maintenance when compared with the pellet stoves that are obviously more convenient and easier to operate. While they look very similar to the older wood fireplaces and stoves, these models operate by microprocessor controls, ensuring a clean and efficient heat source.

Little Known Pellet Stove Facts.....

How much does the material for a pellet stove cost?
The pellets for a pellet stove are going to range in price. If you live in an area where pellet stoves are not popular, you may have some trouble finding materials. But you can always turn to the internet. The average price for a ton of pellets is around $150.00.

You can find them for less if you live close to a pellet manufacturer and you haul the pellets yourself. If you have to have them shipped in, you can expect to pay more. You will definitely still pay less for pellets than coal, electricity, fuel or cords of wood. And you will be able to store them much more efficiently.
